Virtuagym has grown fast; as a matter of fact, we have grown at the speed of a lightning. From roughly 30 employees in 2015 to over 170 in 2018. And we’re just getting started. We’re still learning every day and applying those same learnings to how we work tomorrow.
In fact, those learnings and our growth pace are two key reason why we are looking for an creative, seasoned and caring leader who can bring our people management, recruitment and talent & development to the next level. We’re not going to pretend everything is perfect. We actually like to think we’re not. Instead, we need you to come in and help us to grow our people, processes and tools using a systematic, authentic and caring approach.

We’re looking for the kind of leader who thinks outside her or his swimlane and helps solve business challenges instead of purely people challenges. As this is a strategic role, you will be reporting to the CEO of Virtuagym, based in our global headquarters in Amsterdam.

We’re on a mission of making the world a happier and healthier place through using technology. This mission comes to life by how we are bringing consumers closer to fitness professionals around the globe. Our tools include solutions for exercise and nutrition programs, progress tracking, online coaching, member and staff management, scheduling, online sign-up and payments. Over 5000 businesses and 25.000 personal trainers use our mobile and web apps, allowing them to build strong and meaningful relationships with more than 11 million customers. This includes fitness chains such as Basic-Fit (NL), Xercise4Less (UK),YMCA (USA), and XSport (USA).
Who are you?
5+ years of work experience, including 3 years of experience in HR
1-2 years experience in a HR Management role (if you do not match this requirement, but you are very motivated, ambitious and have management potential together with solid experience in HR, you are also invited to apply)
Experience in a start-up to scale-up journey is a plus
You are able to combine strategic thinking with hands-on execution
You feel comfortable in advising and challenging senior leaders on a daily basis
'Empathy' is your middle name and ‘entrepreneurial’ your last
You love to work out the details
You lead your people by example
You are an experienced leader who knows when to let other people take the stage and when you need to take the lead
As you’ve been part of a scale-up before, you know that no day will be the same after you have joined. You cannot wait on getting your hands dirty in situations where almost nothing is set in stone. This means you will need to bring a fair amount of flexibility and perseverance while we’re figuring out together what to solve today and what we should be solving tomorrow. Having that mindset, we envision you working on the following topics after your journey has started:
Lead the HR and recruitment team by helping them with processes, goals and knowledge
Develop the foundations of a people strategy such as performance management, talent development and employee branding
Work directly with the management team on key opportunities for improving the employee experience in their respective verticals
Build the roadmap for how we can scale Virtuagym to over 500 people in the next three years
Grow the skillset of our managers including coaching & feedback techniques, training, and KPI management
Help develop a compensation philosophy that will help us attract and retain top talent
Drive employee engagement through as many channels as possible
Evolve our culture as well as safeguard those cultural elements which have brought us where we are today
