As Virtuagym keeps on growing, we are now looking for a new face to complement our Engineering team. As Software Engineering Team Manager in our Development team, you will be responsible for managing our Development team. Will you join us in our quest to create a healthier and happier world?
This is a remote position (within the Netherlands), where you will be working for our Amsterdam office. We are looking for a full-time employee (part time can be discussed). We are a remote-friendly company, meaning you can work from your home at all times within the Netherlands. Additionally, you can work from any location you want within Europe up until 3 weeks at a time for a maximum of 12 weeks in a year.

What this role looks like
At Virtuagym you have a direct impact on the employee experience and performance of 10 to 15 of our software engineering team members. Your passion for people and processes helps you to support and coach software engineers effectively in their personal and professional development. You are a problem solver and like to connect and work with people to overcome challenges, celebrate success, and identify and solve any roadblocks. You understand how to effectively leverage flexible processes to empower people. You enjoy being the go-to person for all processes and people-related concerns within the development team.
In your day-to-day job as Team Manager, you’ll be talking with the Engineers in the squads, domain experts and key stakeholders from other departments. You’ll make sure escalations are handled promptly and professionally. You ensure members of the team can work effectively as they grow in a healthy environment. You inspire confidence in team members, you’re a strong motivator and you are able to quickly connect with people. You will be reporting to the Head of Engineering who is responsible for the technical strategy and execution for the entire engineering team.

Some of your key tasks as Software Engineering Team Manager
- Mentor and coach engineers within the Software Development team;
- Provide guidance and ensure appropriate organizational processes and procedures are used within the Software Development department;
- Handle escalations from the business promptly and professionally;
- Ensure performance management takes place and is improved according to the needs of the business and the employees;
- Work together with our internal recruitment team to manage department staffing;
- Align department vision with the company’s short and long-term goals;
- Work together with the team and C-level, to determine department strategy and set the right goals.
What you will bring to the Development team
- Previous experience leading and managing a team;
- You are passionate about tech, but even more about organizational and people processes (deep technical knowledge is not a must);
- Experience in working agile with several cross-functional teams;
- You care about your team, are keen to share knowledge and are open to giving and receiving continuous feedback;
- Strong people (management) skills;
- Good English language skills, both written and verbal;
- You are result-driven and like to keep things lean and efficient;
- You hold a Dutch work visa.
Bonus points for...
- Previous experience working at a SaaS scale-up;
- Passion for fitness and wellbeing.
